Gemma & Gary’s Wedding at Lythe Hill with a DIY Village Hall Reception

The Happy Couple

Gemma and Gary met at school and had been together for 13 years before they got married! Gary proposed on their 10 year anniversary which is on New Year’s Eve so he took her up to Edinburgh to Hogmanay and proposed at midnight just as the fireworks were going off. She cried a lot and then said yes! He had spent a year putting her off the scent so Gemma was convinced he wasn’t going to propose even though she really wanted him to!!

The Wedding Theme

Chichester Village Hall Wedding
It was an English vintage DIY garden party theme with lots of garden games, bunting and a fish and chip van in the evening! It was a really relaxed and fun atmosphere with friends and family of the bride and groom making a lot of the decorations and even the cake!

The Venue

I asked Gemma and Gary why they chose Lythe Hill…

“We did a lot of research and wanted a church hall reception for the laid back atmosphere and the fact we could do everything ourselves without the constraints of a more formal venue. I spent a lot of time trying to find ceremony only venues, Lythe hill was perfect as we could get married outside (which I have always wanted to do), and the Chichester Hall, Whitley was only 10 minutes away and perfect for the reception. Lythe hill took my breath away when we visited as I love the lake and the hills behind. The Chichester hall was amazing as it was really pretty, so spacious and had great out door space for all of the garden games. We also had the entire day before hand to decorate it and there was plenty of room for the fish and chip van for our evening meal!”

The Highlight of the Day

Obviously, the getting married part is always the main highlight of the day, but Gemma said…

“There were so many highlights! Spending the day with all our family and friends and seeing how much everyone enjoyed themselves was a massive highlight. We managed to create the relaxed and fun atmosphere we were hoping for and that was amazing. Dancing to a song that the best man had written and recorded especially for us by my husbands favourite band (who’s album I bought for him on our first Valentine’s Day) was also completely amazing”

It was such a happy day – Who doesn’t love a bit of Jenga! It was such a lot of fun watching the guest have fun with the garden games and it really got everyone involved and relaxed.

Here are a few images to tell the story of their day……
