A Beautiful Countryside Wedding at Groomes, Bordon, Hampshire
When Sam and Iain first said they were having their wedding reception in a “cow shed” I was imagining guests wearing wellies and sitting on blocks of hay with the odd cow wondering past… oh how I was wrong!
Groomes is a fairly new wedding venue located South of Farnham in Surrey, in a little village called Frith End. It consists of a gorgeous 16th century Grade II listed country house, with extensive land, barns and outbuildings. It’s actually a perfect wedding venue, because not only does it have a very large barn which is ideal for holding a wedding reception and seating many guests, it has accommodation for everyone to stay in after the wedding, and it’s in beautiful surroundings – from a photographers point of view it has so many amazing places for taking fabulous photos! They even have a heli-pad for the more extravagant weddings and guests!! Also Pete and Jane who run it are lovely people and very accommodating.
Sam and Iain’s wedding was photographed by me (Ginny Marsh) and my friend and colleague Helen Yates. I’m always happy when people want two photographers at their wedding because we can offer so much more coverage and be in two places at once!
The day started with Helen and I arriving at the bride’s house to photograph everyone getting ready, then Helen went off to meet the groom and ushers at the church. Everyone seemed very relaxed and chilled out on the morning of the wedding (no bridezilla in sight!), so our job was made much easier!
The wedding took place at St James’ Church in Rowledge, Farnham, which is a lovely church in beautiful surroundings. It was such a lovely ceremony with a beautiful choir singing. We did confetti and a few group photos outside the church, then went onto Groomes for the reception…
It was one of the hottest October days on record, and Sam & Iain wanted to get the speeches over and done with before their meal so we ended up doing the speeches outside in the courtyard, which was so lovely!
The guests all then moved over to the main barn, where they held a receiving line to properly greet everyone… We did warn them against this – it can get a bit tedious for the bride and groom, especially if they’ve already said hello to everyone! Surely enough, the bride nearly fainted from heat exhaustion and the groom went off to get a beer before the line had finished!!
The barn was decorated with a gorgeous Moroccan theme with lovely rugs and cushions, making it really cozy and different from the traditional wedding reception style – I loved how it looked!
Overall it was a fantastic day and they were absolutely thrilled with their photos and luxury Graphistudio album that we designed for them. I hope I get to do more weddings at Groomes in the future.
