Holly & Scott’s Summer Wedding at the Hospital of St Cross & Avington Park in Hampshire
I’m so excited to share my photos of Holly & Scott’s wedding, who got married on a very hot July summers day. Their wedding was at the beautiful Hospital of St Cross Church in Winchester, followed by their reception at Avington Park – a lovely country house wedding venue in Hampshire.
The highlight definitely had to be during their meal, when a trio of singers, posing as part of the catering team, all burst into song and got everyone up dancing and singing along – it was absolutely brilliant and some of the most fun I’ve had at a wedding! Then there was Lee Smith the Magician, to add to the entertainment. Holly & Scott sure know how to throw a good party!
Details of the church and venue, and Holly & Scott’s wedding suppliers, can be found at the bottom of this blog 🙂
Here are some of their images to tell the story of their day…
Hospital of St Cross Weddings:
The Hospital of St Cross is pleased to make its beautiful Norman church available for a number of weddings throughout the year. This is by permission of the Master and Trustees and by agreement with the Brothers who live in the almshouse. Marriages are conducted in the Church by the Priest in Charge, the Revd. Paul Kennedy, to whom any interested couple should apply.
It is a good idea to see around the Hospital first as a normal visitor. It is possible to have a preliminary tour of the facilities with a wedding in mind by making an appointment with the Porter.
Receptions are welcome at St Cross. This can be a drinks reception in the Master’s Garden, perhaps before going on to eat elsewhere, or a marquee on the Bowling Green for the whole event.
Avington Park Weddings:
From the grandest wedding to a small intimate gathering, Avington Park provides a stunning setting for your wedding or reception. This beautiful and imposing family home has been granted a licence to hold civil wedding ceremonies, enabling the wedding couple to enjoy their wedding and reception at the same idyllic venue. Avington only offer exclusive use, so it really is yours for the day.
The approach is through wrought iron gates, down the lime tree avenue alongside the River Itchen and sweep round to the elegant façade. Guests may be greeted in the magnificently painted hall, where in winter, log fires will offer a warm welcome. In summer, extensive lawns provide a wonderful setting for a drinks reception before sitting down to a sumptuous wedding breakfast in the library.
The library can hold 175 guests for a drinks reception or 100 for a silver service wedding breakfast. Larger wedding parties may be accommodated in a marquee adjoining the library.
This glorious venue provides unique opportunities for photographs both inside and out – a photographer’s dream!
