Wedding hair and Make-up Tips for the Camera!

Guest blog by wedding hair and make-up artist, Natasha Wiggins

My team of professional wedding hair and make-up artists work with hundreds of brides every year and we have lots of pro tricks up our sleeves to help you look perfect on your wedding day. You want to look natural and it’s important you feel 100% comfortable with your final wedding day look, so that you can relax and enjoy your Big Day!

To make sure your wedding photographer can capture the best possible images and give you some photographs that you will treasure forever, I have a few wedding hair and make-up tips for you…

Tip 1

Make sure you apply lots of powder after doing your make-up so that you don’t look shiny on the camera. If this happens then your photographer will need to spend much longer retouching!

Tip 2

When applying your make-up, do make sure you apply it in natural light so that you can apply the right amount of foundation for when you will be outside in stronger light conditions for your wedding photos. Strong daylight, particularly in Spring and Summer, can be very draining and you may need to apply more make-up than you typically wear on a day-to-day basis.

Tip 3

Make sure your wear lipstick so that your lips stand out or else they will not look defined in the pictures, and you may look washed out.

Tip 4

Tame any fly away bits of hair with some trusty hairspray. It may be a little breezy outside and your pretty wedding hairstyle may quickly become a bit unruffled and untidy. We use a variety of finishing and fixing sprays to ensure your wedding day hair stays put all day and into the evening for the dancing! Lots of fly-away hair means your photographer will have to spend much longer editing your pics in Photoshop and they may not be able to correct fully.

Tip5

Always make sure the make-up and skin tone on your face matches your body skin tone so there are no lines or else this makes it hard work for the photographer to create an overall natural wedding look.

Good luck for your Big Day. Enjoy it!

And if you would prefer to relax and leave your wedding hair and make-up to a professional then do get in touch to discuss your dream wedding day look.

I agree with all of Natasha’s points above. Especially the point about fly-away hair – this is VERY difficult to retouch, and most of the time impossible to make look perfect in post production. This is why it’s best to get as many portraits done early on in the day to make sure you look your best.

Also I must point out you always need more makeup on your wedding day than you would normally wear! You may think it looks strong in the mirror, but trust me; it always looks like you’re wearing less in the photos. Getting a professional to do it not only makes you look stunning; you want to get star treatment on your wedding day and be pampered – it will help you to relax and feel more confident that you look amazing.
