Karen & Paul’s Wedding at the Georgian House Hotel, Haslemere, Surrey
I was so pleased when I got talking to Karen at the Georgian House Hotel wedding fair last year, because firstly she seemed like such a lovely lady, but secondly, she told me she wasn’t planning on having a wedding photographer for hers and Paul’s wedding! They didn’t want to make a big thing out of it – they just wanted to throw a big party and have loads of fun with their close family, friends and kids.
However, we got chatting, and as I say to a lot of people in this situation, your photos are the one thing that last to tell the story of your day (apart from hopefully your marriage of course!). I have heard people who have been unhappy with family and friends photos because they just haven’t captured certain people together, or certain events in the day. A good professional photographer will not only capture all these things but also tell the story and capture little details and moments that you may not notice or remember. And at the same time, be discreet so nobody really notices they’re there half the time!
When I went off to get a drink, Karen caught me in the hotel lounge area and said I’d changed her mind, and she wanted me to photograph her wedding, which obviously made me thrilled! But when I got properly talking to Karen and Paul, I realized what an amazing story they have and that they are so in love, and have gone through so much to get where they are today. It took a long time for them to find each other, they both have grown up children, and Karen even battled cancer when they first met, but they are now happier than ever and their love really shows. They seriously brought a tear to my eye!
Here is Karen’s story:-
“Paul and I met on the internet in January 2013 and have been almost inseparable since. I was going through treatment for colon cancer having had radio and chemotherapy and awaiting major surgery. I joined a dating site with a very open mind looking for a few dates nothing serious! Paul was looking for fun!! As soon as we met we were both totally smitten!!
Paul stood by me through the surgery and further chemotherapy and asked me to marry him 11 months after our first meeting during a beautiful weekend away in Oxford.
Our wedding in September 2014 was something I thought I would never see. We wanted a happy, party atmosphere for our day with very little formality. We had both been married before and this time we just wanted a fun day for both us and our guests.
I am now in remission after two years of treatment & we are both just so grateful to have found each other, and would recommend internet dating because you never know what might happen!!”
The highlight of their wedding was the bouncy castle in the garden, which I even had a go on, plus Paul’s dad sang a lovely song as they exited the ceremony, which I thought was a nice personal touch.
Anyway, here’s some of their images to tell the story of their wedding day at the Georgian House Hotel in Haslemere…
