NEW! Video-Photo Fusion Slideshows!

I’ve been very busy in the last week trying out a new technique to wow my wedding clients – by mixing video with still images at weddings to create a little highlights fusion slideshow, backed to music, to tell the story of the day in just a few minutes!

I shoot with a Canon 5D Mkii, which is a popular camera with videographers, and although filming doesn’t come as naturally to me as taking still images, for a while now I’ve really wanted to try it out and challenge myself with new skills. It’s just something I put off a bit because teaching yourself is very time consuming, and I didn’t even know where to start with the video editing software!

When I found out Hannah Millard (AKA Camera Hannah, who was voted Hitched Breakthrough Awards Best New Wedding Photographer 2011) was doing a workshop at the Photography Farm on video fusion at weddings, I rearranged a shoot and jumped at the chance of taking part and learning some new skills!

The Photography Farm is a great resource for photographers with ‘Farm Week’ every February, which is packed full of inspirational workshops. It is based at Ridge Farm, in West Sussex, which also used to be a famous recording studio for many well known artists such as Queen, Ozzy Osbourne and Oasis. I’ve previously attended a boudoir workshop a couple of years ago with Eliza Claire, which was brilliant. My little sister, Lindsay, and her fiancé Cooper, have also decided it’s going to be their wedding venue and I’m so excited to be going back there later this year at the end of July 2015 for their wedding! It’s on a beautiful farm setting, with a gorgeous old farmhouse that sleeps 10-12, plus the pool house, which gets covered over and turned into the main reception room for the wedding breakfast and dancing! I’m going to be a bridesmaid though, so we’ve got another professional photographer shooting the main bit 🙂 To find out more about Ridge Farm weddings, please click HERE.

Hannah gave us tonnes of very useful information and inspired us with her knowledge of shooting videos as well as stills at weddings. She arranged for a lovely couple to come and be our models (test subjects!), who had no previous modelling experience but were obviously in love as it really showed 🙂

Hannah separates video from the stills, and makes a video highlights film on it’s own (I still don’t know how she does it so well!), and I’ve also seen Neale James do something completely different, and combine still images with audio from the wedding to make unique fusion films… although I really want to combine both video and photos together, as I am first and foremost a photographer, and just want to add video to give my images that extra special touch to help tell the story of the day.

Here are a few of the stills I took from our workshop… (but please check down the bottom for Natasha & Shain’s Wedding Video Fusion Slideshow!)

On Friday 20th February, Natasha & Shain got married at the Royal Garrison Church in Aldershot, followed by wedding reception at The Village Hotel in Farnborough. They booked me to photograph their wedding, although I didn’t actually tell them I was filming on the day, just in case it didn’t go so well (!), but I’m so pleased with the results! I popped round to their house in person to show them the surprise slideshow I’d made, and they were absolutely over the moon. When I posted it on my Facebook page I got so many fabulous comments, including one from Natasha, saying “I can’t stop watching it with the biggest smile on face! Can’t thank you enough ginny xx”

A full blog post will follow about Natasha and Shain’s wedding, but for now, here’s their wedding highlights photo-video fusion slideshow!

If you’re getting married and love the idea of having one of my photo-video fusion slideshows, then please get in touch! Please note, I am not a videographer and this is in no way a replacement for a videographer. If you feel passionately about getting your wedding filmed I can recommend a few videographers I have previously worked with 🙂

Many thanks for reading!
