Why Nicola wanted to have a Personal Branding Shoot.

Nicola approached me for her personal branding shoot as we have worked together on various shoots in the past. Consequently meaning that she knows and loves my style.

Nicola is a freelance makeup artist specialising mostly in weddings. She has been in the industry 2 years but she wanted to refocus on targeting her ideal client. She wants to appeal to the more luxury market & start spreading her wings into beauty & fashion makeup.

I asked her plenty of questions about her and her business to make sure I created the images she wanted and needed 🙂

How to prepare for a Personal Branding Shoot..

Having professional branding photographs is one of the key elements of your personal brand. It’s the first element of your business that people see, when they come across your social profiles.

Meaning within a matter of seconds, they make a judgement on who you are as a person as well. So, let me ask you this – who would you take more seriously? Someone with a professional headshot or someone with a selfie?

A good place to start is with a moodboard – this helps you to get all of your thoughts in one place. Once you get a vision of how you want your photos to look, then you can explore this further with your photographer.

The best place to look is on Pinterest. I have various boards that highlight different looks that I’ve done already. These include main colours, locations and types of shots.

Having fun with the camera

Having any kind of photoshoot should be a fun experience in my mind. Not only do I like to have fun whilst I’m being creative, but I find that my clients respond so much better to the camera if they treat it as special occasion, something that they can enjoy.

I don’t just do the standard shoot where we are in one fixed location….. Depending, of course on the message my client wants to give out to their customers. We will sometimes visit a couple of locations making sure that we capture different scenes, different emotions and to show that we all have different dimensions.
