Vintage Glamour Styled Wedding Shoot at Farnham Castle

I’m so excited to be able to finally share these images with everyone! I did a Vintage 30’s & 50’s Glamour styled wedding shoot back in March at Farnham Castle, and the weather was luckily perfect on the day (if a little chilly!). We had some of the best and nicest local wedding suppliers contributing lots of fantastic things for the shoot (who I would thoroughly recommend to all my clients – see end of this blog for the list) and I wouldn’t have been able to put it all together without my amazing friend and assisting photographer, Natasha Davies (now Shuttleworth).

I’ve always loved the Vintage Hollywood Glamour style, ever since I discovered it during my degree at the Arts University in Bournemouth, specializing in fashion photography, and idolizing classic fashion photographers such as Richard Avedon, Horst P. Horst, Irving Penn, and Cecil Beaton to name a few.

Then I found my love for weddings, and developed my own style, and now after 4 years of photographing weddings, have put it all together for my first styled wedding shoot! I was used to organizing and styling fashion shoots at Uni but have never done one this big, and think I pulled it off ok!

The reason I had a 30’s style and a 50’s style is because I love both those eras (LOVE The Great Gatsby style, and also have a secret love for 50’s style Rockabilly) and wanted the two to look different, whilst still fitting in with the theme; plus Madeline Isaac-James had some of the perfect dresses, which were very kindly lent to me by No. 10 Bridal.

Farnham Castle was just a fantastically grand location (not very Hollywood, but still very glamorous!) and is soon due to have a fabulous refurbishment, which will make it into a stunning wedding venue. The suppliers who all contributed to the shoot are all very lovely talented people and I would recommend all of them to my clients.

The models I used for the shoot (Rachel Marquez and Erick Hayden) are both actors from Guildford, who love the same style, and have actually since just got married to each other in their home state of Alaska in the US! Unfortunately I didn’t get to travel over there to photograph the real wedding. I wanted to use models who were an actual couple to make the love look real – at my weddings I love to focus on emotions and capturing the moment.

Erick and Rachel met while doing a 1930s screwball comedy called “You Can’t Take it With You” in their home state of Alaska. They started dating at the end of the run and have been together ever since. They have worked on several plays/films together and are both actors. In addition, Erick is a choreographer, director, sound and film editor while Rachel is a storyboard/concept artist, illustrator, singer and model. Last summer, after seeing a play in their new hometown of Guildford, Erick proposed to Rachel and she said yes!

I hope these images inspire people to have a Vintage Glamour themed wedding of their own… (or even book me as your wedding photographer!)
